The college has its own permanent campus spread over 3.45 acres of land in K.G.School Road adjacent to the official residence of the Deputy Commissioner approximately two kilometers from the railway station, the bus stand and the government hospital. The college offers intermediate and undergraduate courses in humanities, social sciences and sciences. The college has a well stocked library and well equipped science laboratories. It has a canteen and a girl’s hostel.
In the near future there will be further expansion of the college infrastructure. Since YSNM is the sole women’s college in the area, efforts are also being made to introduce postgraduate courses for the benefit of the students.
At present around five thousand girls coming from Palamu , Latehar and Garhwa districts are studying in YSNM College. Reservation policy is strictly adhered to in the admission process. Scholarship is paid as per the state government’s rules and regulations to students coming from the underprivileged sections of the society.
Cultural and social activities and sporting events are organized at regular intervals to ensure the overall development of the college students. The college has its own wing of NCC and NSS. The college magazine ‘Rashmi’ is published annually in which faculty members as well as students are encouraged to contribute their articles and literary pieces.
The college administration with ample support from the University authorities is doing its utmost for the development of the college. Dedicated faculty members and efficient non- teaching staff are the backbone of this institution. A number of committees have been constituted to assist the Prof- in – charge Dr. Pratibha Jain in academic and administrative matters and to ensure the smooth functioning of the college. The college has a grievance redressal cell and a separate committee of senior faculty members to look into matters pertaining to RTI. Anti-ragging cell has also been constituted to ensure student friendly environment in the college.
Constraints are many and challenges galore. However in spite of all the challenges and limitations, the college has remained undeterred in its effort to provide quality education to its talented students in a secure environment. Collective social responsibility, transparency and gender sensitivity is the guiding principle in the day to day running of the college. The motive is not just to provide good facilities, impart bookish knowledge and award degrees to girls but to help and motivate them in becoming sensible, sensitive and self-reliant ladies who would not only preserve and nurture the traditional values of Indian society but also contribute towards the growth of the state and the country.
